The proposed changes included in this public review addressed the following topics in the National Building Code of Canada and the National Plumbing Code of Canada:\n<ul>\n \t<li>structural design (Part 9) \u2013 lateral loads<\/li>\n \t<li>large farm buildings<\/li>\n \t<li>building fire safety<\/li>\n \t<li>fire protection<\/li>\n \t<li>combustible construction \u2013 fire protection and safety<\/li>\n \t<li>fire alarm and detection systems<\/li>\n \t<li>encapsulated mass timber construction<\/li>\n \t<li>spatial separation between buildings<\/li>\n \t<li>accessibility \u2013 inclusive plumbing accommodation<\/li>\n \t<li>environmental separation<\/li>\n \t<li>spray-applied polyurethane insulation<\/li>\n \t<li>drainage systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nSee the\u00a0<strong>summary of proposed changes<\/strong>\u00a0below for more details.\n\nThe purpose of this public review was to:\n<ul>\n \t<li>provide code users and stakeholders with a detailed look at proposed technical changes, and<\/li>\n \t<li>seek comment on each\u00a0<strong>proposed technical change<\/strong>as to whether it should be approved, altered or withdrawn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe public review closed at 11:59 pm PDT on April 27, 2023,\u00a0<strong>after which comments will no longer be accepted<\/strong>.\n\nThe result of the public review process is a collection of comments on proposed code changes. The comments are sorted and analyzed by Codes Canada staff who are familiar with the development of the proposed changes, and who develop a draft resolution to each comment.\n\nThe draft resolutions are validated by the responsible code development committees, which form the recommendations to the CBHCC. The recommendations could be one of the following:\n<ul>\n \t<li>approve for publication,<\/li>\n \t<li>defer publication pending further development \u2013 subject to subsequent public review, or<\/li>\n \t<li>withdraw proposed code change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nThe CBHCC decides which changes will be published in the next edition of the National Model Codes based on the recommendations of the code development committees.\n\n<style id=\"ea_dynamic_css4052\">#sp-ea-4052 .spcollapsing{height: 0; Removes the existing provisions for determining the street frontage of such a building based on the distance between a certain percentage of its perimeter and a street.<\/p>\n<h3>Limiting distance and area of unprotected openings (Part 3)<\/h3>\n<p>Corrects errors in the tables for determining the unprotected opening limits for a building or fire compartment. Adds an explanatory Note showing how the table values were calculated and clarifying that linear interpolation between the table values is permitted.<\/p>\n<h3>Testing of protection for foamed plastic insulation (Part 3)<\/h3>\n<p>Updates existing references to test methods for the evaluation of protection for foamed plastic insulation and introduces references to a new test method, in order to increase compliance options and to reduce the potential for confusion resulting from the current references.<\/p>\n<h3>Emergency lighting in universal washrooms and shower rooms (Part 3)<\/h3>\n<p>Explicitly requires the provision of emergency lighting in universal washrooms and universal dressing and shower rooms as specified in Section 3.8., so that designers of Part 9 buildings that are barrier-free and comply with Section 3.8. have clear direction on the emergency lighting requirements.<\/p>\n<h3>Lateral loads (Part 9 and Appendix C)<\/h3>\n<p>Updates the seismic hazard values referenced in Part 9, replaces Sa(0.2) by the seismic design parameter, S<sub>max<\/sub>, adds new wood-frame wall types, and requires bracing for wind and seismic loads in more locations in Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading-pr wp-block-heading\" style=\"margin-bottom: 35px !important;\">Combined proposed change forms are available in PDF file format<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"\/eng\/public-review\/2023_1\/2023_1-proposed-changes-to-nbc-npc-combined-file-2023-02-27.pdf\">Winter 2023: Proposed changes to NBC 2020, and NPC 2020 \u2013 combined file<\/a> (PDF \u2013 8,310 KB)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This national public review ran from\u00a0February 27 to April 27, 2023.
